End-of-the-Contest Roundup

August 31st, 2008 by Sarah

The intrepid Jane and Sarah spent a fabulous Saturday night plotting and planning. (While, incidentally, worrying about everyone in the Gulf. Stay safe, and best wishes.) But especially as voting comes to a close tonight at midnight, there are a couple of important points to make.

  • First, we are thoroughly delighted that you are all so into the contest, and we love giving you a place to compete for votes, display your awesome creativity, and get new readers. But some of you, frankly, are freaking us out a little. We’re doing everything we can to make this as big and fun as possible, but please don’t take this more seriously than it should be taken.
  • Second, remember it’s just us – two bloggers who had a fun idea a month and a half ago. As superhuman as we indeed are in many ways, certain things are beyond our powers. We can’t control acts of God. We can’t control what any of our 359 nominees have done or might be doing. And sadly, as stated in the first FAQ, we are not women of independent means. We’re doing what we can to make the calendar shoot fabulous for the people who can get there. And if you can help, please let us know.
  • Third, yes, we did eliminate the ability to view the vote count for this last day, because we thought it’d be a fun way to keep the anticipation high. After all, when we announce the winners, shouldn’t it be something you’re excited about?
  • Fourth, voting IS still open till midnight!
  • And fifth and finally, one last campaign video from the indefatigable Slackmistress.

Huh? Sorry, but some of the things in this post confused me a bit. Have I missed something? Of course you all can’t control acts of God, and obviously you can’t afford to fly everyone out for the shoot…

Anyway, best of luck to everyone. No matter what the results are, I can honestly say I’ve had a blast and this has been great PR for my site, so thank you to Sarah and Jane and also thank you to everyone who has stopped by my site!

Lastly, we are evacuated in Mississippi right now, and are from Southeastern Louisiana, so please keep the citizens of our area in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks everyone!

Do us all a favor and take tomorrow completely off from all of this, okay? You deserve a day of rest from your labors.

Hey, if anything, this showed me how totally cool my readers are. The fact that I stayed in contention for so long being a relatively new and unknown blogger just blew me away. Whether I get in the final 12 or not (of course I w I’m wishing with all my might that I do!!), I will come away from this knowing that people really do enjoy my little piece of the internet. That there is priceless!!

I can’t believe people are freaking out (or freaking you guys out) by taking something that’s fun and supposed to be light-hearted so seriously! You guys have done a great job!

Seriously, this has been great for my blog, I have a whole new batch of readers and I have become a reader of a lot of the nominees’ blog. I really have enjoyed this, like you, BD, I’ve only been at this a short time and I really feel like everyone has been really accepting, it’s a pretty cool feeling. My competitive side can get pretty ugly, so I’m glad that part of this is coming to an end. I look forward to bouncing around everyone’s blog from here on out, hope everyone had as much fun as I did.

I know that us over here at momdot are on the edge of the hurricane and one of our writers has had to evacuate from her New Orleans home, so our spirit is busted…we didnt have the heart to really campaign anymore preparing for the storm. We did hve a great week, we love all the bloggers that participated with us, and all of our readers that came out in huge droves to support our silliness. Very fun! And an excuse to get in lingerie…so cool.
Sorry we couldnt play this weekend,
